It is less than a month to the 4th Teso Development International Conference (TDIC) and I am happy to inform you that arrangements are progressing well.
The free to attend Conference will take place on 18th–23rd September, 2017 at the University of East London, Water Lane, London. E15 4LZ, United Kingdom.
The theme of the Conference is: Teso: Past, Present and Future. Its goal is to foster a united approach to solving the problems affecting Teso, and prioritising strategies to tackling them.
The Conference also aims to mobilise local and international opportunities and resources to solve the problems facing Teso region.
The Conference sessions will take place on 18th–19th September, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. On 20th, there will be a learning tour of a primary school, on 21st, there will be a tour of Alvan Blanch Agro-Implements Factory, and on 22nd, delegates will tour a Bakery.
Conference Attendance
We have issued about 150 invitations. Of these, nearly 50 people from Uganda have confirmed attendance. Among the confirmed participants are:
His Highness, The Emorimor Papa Iteso, Augustine Kadugala Osuban and his wife, Akaliait Toto Agnes Osuban. The Emorimor, who will be the Guest of Honour at the Conference will be traveling with a team of 6 of his ministers.
The Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament, The Right Honourable Rebecca Kadaga is expected to open the Conference.
The Minister for Teso Affairs, Agnes Akiror Egunyu, will be attending the Conference. She will lead a delegation of Uganda government officials that includes 2 Presidential Advisors and lead the entire delegation from Uganda.
About a dozen members of Uganda’s parliament from Teso under their umbrella body, Teso Parliamentary Group and led by its Chairman, Hon. Patrick Okabe, MP for Serere County will attend the Conference.
Several MPs from other parts of Uganda including Hon. Odonga-Otto, Member of Parliament for Aruu County, Hon. Hon Alex Bakunda Byarugaba, MP Insingiro South, Chairman, Natural Resources Committee, and Hon Andrew Baryayanga, Member of Parliament, Kabale Municipality will attend.
Uganda’s High Commissioner to the UK and other important dignitaries and leaders of Ugandan communities will attend the conference.
We have provided information and support regarding visa processing, hotel accommodation and other logistical arrangements.
Conference Speakers
Professor John Robert Ikoja-Odongo, the Vice Chancellor of Soroti University of Science and Technology will be the first Key Note Speaker. The title of his paper is: 100 years of the Iteso: Adaptation, Resilience, and Revival.
Professor Venansius Baryamureeba, the former Vice Chancellor of Makerere University will be our second Key Note Speaker. The title of his paper is: “The Untapped Potential of Teso”.
Several speakers have confirmed attendance including Dr. Alfred Banya, the Assistant Chaplain, Kingston Hospital and Co-ordinator of Ugandan Catholic groups in the UK. The title of paper is: Ugandan diaspora in the UK and the development of Uganda: how can Ugandans in the UK effectively contribute to the development of Uganda?
We have delegates from Germany and other countries. Locally, a cross section of Ugandan communities in the UK, organisations and donors will be in attendance.
Fundraising Dinner
The Fundraising Gala Dinner to raise funds for IWA Mobile Clinic and to initiate our recently appointed chiefs, Solomon Emong and Michael Okwalinga are also on course.
The Gala Dinner and initiation ceremony will take place on Friday 22nd September, 2017 at The Royal Regency Hotel, 501, High Street North, Manor Park, London. E12 6 TH, UK, from 6:00 pm to 3:00 am.
The Gala Dinner aims to raise £20,000 for a mobile community health outreach to improve health services in Uganda. Limited tickets for the dinner are on sale at £100, £150, £200 or any donation. In addition to raising funds, this Gala Dinner is to recognise people who have contributed to the development of Teso, and to thank conference delegates.
